Non-Standard Guide Rail

When standard C- or U-shaped rails are unsuitable for your roof, Guojian manufactures custom non-standard guide rails tailored to your needs. These rails are cold-roll formed from S350GD steel strip and feature hot-dip galvanizing or Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium coating for corrosion resistance; their cross-sections are designed specifically to match your roof profile and module layout. We welcome your inquiries.

We design the custom non-standard guide rail profiles based on the specific roof geometry rather than selecting them from a standard inventory list. We roll-form the required profiles using high-strength S350GD steel, incorporating standard T-slots that remain compatible with off-the-shelf mid-clamps, end-clamps, and sliding nuts; these are supplied with either hot-dip galvanized or Zn-Al-Mg coatings. Profile design, roll forming, punching, and cut-to-length operations are all performed at our own factory in Tianjin, China.

Applicable Roof Types

Trapezoidal and standing-seam metal roofs with unique geometries:

Common scenarios include unconventional trapezoidal or standing-seam profiles and rib heights that exceed standard ranges, where the bases of standard C/U rails would interfere with the roof ribs, preventing them from sitting flat.

Curved, arched, or stepped roofs:

On roofs with curvature or elevation changes, standard rails with fixed profiles would either leave gaps or force the module frames to twist. Custom profiles of non-standard guide rail allow each mounting point to be positioned at the exact required height.

Space-constrained layouts:

Situations involving low mounting heights, roof equipment penetrating the array, or modules set at special tilt angles. Custom rail profiles can be made shallow or shaped to clear obstacles, eliminating the need to redesign the entire array just to accommodate a standard profile.

PV retrofitting for existing industrial facilities:

Where existing purlins are fixed and immovable, profiles of the non-standard guide rail designed to match the existing purlin spacing allow the new array to be mounted directly onto the original structure without cutting or reinforcement.

Core Advantages and Underlying Reasons

Profiles tailored to the roof, saving labor time:

Profiles are designed specifically for the roof's rib shape, purlin positions, and module angles. Upon delivery, the rails are ready-to-install components rather than compromise solutions. This translates to significant savings in on-site labor—eliminating the need for cutting, grinding, or shimming on the roof and drastically reducing unexpected work stoppages.

Higher structural efficiency for the same amount of steel:

The cross-section of the non-standard guide rail allows material to be positioned exactly where the bending moment acts; for the same weight, it provides a higher moment of inertia than standard sections. When roof load is a constraint, the same logic applies in reverse: the section can be made lighter to control the dead load on aging roofs.

Standard T-slots retained on the clamping surface:

Regardless of the external profile, the clamping surface retains standard T-slots. Commercially available mid-clamps, end-clamps, and sliding nuts can be used as usual, and the rest of the bill of materials remains unchanged. Your existing installation tools and clamp inventory remain usable.

Single-pass forming and stable supply:

The section is formed via continuous roll-forming from steel strip in a single pass, ensuring consistent straightness and repeatability across batches—the tenth container will match the approved sample.

Coating options based on service life:

Non-standard guide rail has both hot-dip galvanized (Z275) and Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium (ZAM80–150) options are available. Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium offers self-healing capabilities at cut edges and superior salt spray resistance compared to conventional galvanizing; therefore, we recommend it for coastal areas and high-humidity industrial sites. Corrosion resistance warranties are 15 years for hot-dip galvanized and 25 years for Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium.

Installation and Usage Precautions

Load paths are determined by the specific cross-section designed for the project; therefore, installation protocols for these non-standard guide rails are stricter than for standard rails. We require every installation team to adhere to the following five points:

1. Do not reverse the orientation of the slot relative to the installation direction—incorrect orientation alters the load-bearing cross-section and reduces load capacity.

2. Tighten bolts strictly according to the design torque; excessive torque on the thin-walled areas of the custom section can cause local crushing.

3. Rail splicing must utilize the custom connectors designed for this specific section; standard rail connectors are incompatible with this geometry.

4. Install insulating gaskets at points of contact between dissimilar metals to prevent electrochemical corrosion; ensure fasteners are compatible with the coating (Hot-Dip Galvanized or Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium).

5. Do not step on the thin-walled sections at the mid-span of the rails; concentrated loads from foot traffic can cause deformation.

Manufacturing and Quality Control

Our company implements a three-stage quality control process: inspection of incoming steel strip and coating materials (checking grade, thickness, and coating weight); in-line measurement of cross-sectional dimensions and straightness during roll forming; and final inspection of cross-sectional precision, straightness, and surface condition before packaging each batch. Our quality and environmental management systems are certified under ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001; the scope of certification covers steel PV mounting structures and metal PV accessories.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What information do you need from us to provide a quote for custom-profile rails?

A: We require roof tile or purlin drawings (or a dimensioned cross-section sketch), module dimensions and layout, and the planned support span. Based on this, we will confirm the cross-section, coating specifications, and unit weight before providing a quote. Samples or first-article cross-sections can be produced prior to mass production.

Q2: Are you a manufacturer or a trading company?

A: We are a manufacturer. Roll forming, punching, cut-to-length processing, and coating management are all carried out at our own production facility in Tianjin, China. You are welcome to review our factory records and certificates.

Q3: How should I choose between Hot-Dip Galvanized and Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium coatings?

A: For most inland roofing applications, Hot-Dip Galvanized (Z275) is sufficient. For coastal, high-humidity, or industrial corrosive environments, we recommend Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium, as it offers superior cut-edge protection and salt spray resistance. Warranty terms differ accordingly: 15 years for Hot-Dip Galvanized and 25 years for Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium.

Q4: Is a full container order required for custom profiles?

A: The standard minimum order quantity is one 20GP container. For initial trial orders or sample batches of new profiles, we can accept smaller quantities; simply provide the profile drawing and total length, and we will quote accordingly.

Q5: Is this rail compatible with standard clamps and fasteners?

A: It depends on the profile specifications of non-standard guide rail. Standard modified profiles are compatible with mainstream clamps and stainless steel fasteners available on the market; for special profiles, we provide matching clamps and connectors to ensure compatibility during on-site installation.
